Bring them in to Worship
Rev Gordon Siu
It has been shared by many brothers and sisters that they had believed in Christ or resumed church life at the invitation of some Christian friends. There is a lady who met a Christian friend during morning walk and was later invited to NPAC's worship service. At first, she attended just to get to know Christianity. But each time she attended church service, she felt an inner peace and one time during hymn singing, her heart was stirred, and she cried. She later became a Christian. Another lady, a hospital staff member, was impressed by a Christian colleague's passion for work, good character and sincerity in caring for patients. These appeared to have come from the colleague’s faith. So one day, she asked the colleague to take her to church. She was another convert at our worship service.
For many years, I have heard stories like these. Some other brothers and sisters have stumbled upon former classmates they had not seen for ages. These former classmates said they wanted to go to church. Church worship was unfamiliar to them, but it was where they experienced God. Today through His children, God still brings home to the fold His sheep that are outside the pen. The Lord said, "I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice…" The Lord is concerned about those predestined to be saved, and moves us to approach them. He also leads them to Christian friends. The Lord sends out His own sheep to help and bring home others that belong to Him. His work continues today.
Are we near to the heart of God? Perhaps we are too accustomed to staying within the fold. We have experienced His grace and keeping, and enjoyed worshipping Him. But does that make us "selfish" in the sense that we only keep the grace within us after receiving it from God?
To share God's heart, we need to prepare ourselves to respond anytime to His sending. We need to pay attention to the people in our workplace and social circle to discern which ones are God's sheep outside His pen. We need to pray for them and seek an opportunity to share our faith with them, or take them to worship services. We need to open up ourselves to God and be willing to lead others to Him. We should also watch how God moves some people to tell us they want to go to church. Then we respond zealously.
I have the impression that our desire to invite others to church has somewhat declined over the past two or three years. I have often prayed for this, and discussed with other pastoral staff what we can do. Our pastoral staff have now come up with new measures to be introduced in July to facilitate brothers and sisters in bringing in newcomers to worship and providing better reception service. But the most important thing is for us to pray and share the heart of God, to take the sheep outside the fold back home. Dear brothers and sisters of the NPAC Family, please pray for our newcomers.
