Mission Ambassadors under Covenant
Rev Ng Ming Yee
NPAC is a big church. As at the end of 2018, there are a total of 108 fellowships and 55 small groups, each having its unique characteristics and features. It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the Mission Department alone to convey the vision for mission to such a big church family. For this reason, the church has encouraged fellowships and small groups since more than 10 years ago to set up a serving position called “Mission Ambassador.” These ambassadors connect with missionaries and mission fields to bring their news to fellowships and small groups for prayer. Ambassadors also participate in short mission trips to visit missionaries and experience their lives serving among the unreached peoples. They bridge the gap between the church and the missionaries and are valued partners of the mission workers.
At present, we have more than 120 Mission Ambassadors from over 70 fellowships and small groups. At the start of each year, the Mission Department gathers together the ambassadors in a “Covenant Day” event so they can commit, pray and prepare for their ministry for the new year. During the event, the ambassadors are given a package of tips, latest news and information about NPAC missionaries, mission care groups, Mission Sunday School and mission events. Moreover, there is a sharing session for pastoral staff, department committee members and the ambassadors to improve their team work.
A veteran Mission Ambassador said, “Consider the missionaries as members of your fellowship. Do your best to pray for them in fellowship at least once a month, for about 20 minutes each time. Send them goodwill cards and small gifts on their birthdays and the birthdays of their family, at Christmas, Easter and other occasions. The joy and encouragement they have upon receipt of your care is beyond words.
A short-term missionary to Thailand was unmoved in the past when he saw brothers and sisters sending goodwill cards to missionaries. He thought the messages would not be taken seriously as they came from unknown people. It was not until he received his card at the remote mission field that his perception changed. He was moved to tears.
A small act of love and appreciation can help accomplish the good work of mission!
The Missions Ambassador above also said, "The greatest blessing for a Mission Ambassador is in the sustained relationship with the missionaries with mutual trust and care for each other. Not only can we support the missionaries but we also benefit from their sharing and experiences. Our commitment and understanding towards mission are enhanced. That is a huge blessing."
May the Lord be pleased with our willing offering!
