Pastor's Sharing
NPAC Worship Bulletin (Chinese): New Look, New Milestone
Rev Raymond Chan

Amid a large number of items in NPAC's archive and relics collection, the most complete and best preserved are perhaps the church's weekly worship bulletins. The bulletin collection dates back to November 2, 1958. More than 3,000 issues of the bulletin have been published since then. As the church develops, so does the bulletin, which changes in content, design, printing and format. Today, to keep up with the way ministries are conducted and information is received, it was decided that the worship bulletin be given a new face.

The first thing you will notice when you pick up the Chinese worship bulletin next week is that the number of pages has been reduced. The Pastor's Sharing on the front page and most of the inside pages run in two columns. As the use of projectors in worship services become increasingly popular, some of the information formerly carried in the bulletin will now be moved to the projector screen. The change will help the congregation focus more on the service proceeding. Meanwhile, ministry and meeting news, along with other information for the congregation, will be categorized so brother and sisters can more easily find the information. There are other adjustments to the format which are aimed at making the bulletin more readable or are in the interest of environmental protection.

The main functions of the worship bulletin are 1) to convey essential information about various worship services to enhance participation, and 2) to serve as a link between the church and the congregation, giving brothers and sisters a good grasp of the church's latest developments. We are fully aware of the restrictions of the bulletin acting alone and so we will be using other media, including the website, pamphlets, the Facebook page of the NPAC newsletter《北宣家訊》, posters and a new mobile app, NPAC Connect, as well. The new app will soon be available for downloading and the details are available in the coming issue of the NPAC newsletter. The app is aimed at disseminating church information more effectively to draw attention to the NPAC Family.

Technological advances have ushered in more and faster channels for information dissemination. But without participation by brothers and sisters, the benefits will be limited. The momentum of NPAC does not rest on a good communication network. That is only the hardware. It needs to be supported by the software which is active participation by brothers and sisters. With that in place, a simple recruitment notice in the worship bulletin can become a call for loving one another; an evangelistic meeting reminder can serve as an opportunity for believers to respond to the Great Commission; meetings of various kinds, however unrelated to individual believers, can be a subject for prayer by which the believer watches over others who participate and pray that they will benefit. When you receive the bulletin with a fresh design next week, I hope you will see not only a host of information, but also the mark of NPAC's history and a means by which brothers and sisters connect to one another.
