"Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need. Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God." (Philippians 4:15-18)
Bearing fruit in evangelism is very important for believers' spiritual lives. The above passage tells us how the Apostle Paul defined the mission and calling of following Christ. When was the last time you shared the gospel with others or invited someone to an evangelistic or gospel-related meeting? Which was the stage in your spiritual life that you were most enthusiastic about preaching the gospel? Are you still zealous for evangelism today?
In this age of distorted truths, God is waiting every day for many to repent. In the same way, for those of us who have experienced the preciousness and abundance of the gospel, we would naturally recommend it to others with zeal. What the gospel brings us is not just eternal life but also the privilege of experiencing God and serving Him during our days on earth. If we do not enthusiastically recommend the gospel to others, would it not reflect to what degree we consider our faith precious to us?
The April issue of the NPAC Newsletter this year carries a number of touching testimonies. Brothers and sisters' candid sharing reminds us that many are struggling in life with ailing bodies and mind, gloomy environment, and misfortunes of all kinds. Without God's love and salvation, how would they leave their darkness to gain new life? The articles tell us that persistent invitations by Christian friends and hospital chaplains were why they came to know Jesus the Savior and accept Him as their Savior. When we follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit and boldly lead others to accept God's saving grace, we participate effortlessly in the ministry of evangelism. Evangelism is a warfare to "rescue" lives. Life is brief and fragile. We need to make the most of our opportunities: every evangelistic meeting, every gospel class could well be the last. Today, pagan and anti-Christ ideologies are actively preaching "other faiths." May we discover the meaning and value of evangelism. May the Lord's love spur us on and may His sacrifice in saving us become our motivation, for the gospel is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.
"This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples." (John 15:8) May we be able to please God by bearing much fruit.
